ALEXANDRA – Robbery victim owes selfless taxi driver for a lucky escape.

Three suspected robbers are being sought by the Alex Police Station for the fatal shooting of a taxi driver who allegedly intervened between them and a victim.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Stephen Malatji said the incident occurred at about 3pm on 19 August at the intersection of Watt and 3rd streets in Wynberg. “The deceased saw the armed men rob a motorist who was reversing his vehicle from a parking spot, being assaulted and robbed of two Nokia cell phones valued at R1 200 by three suspects.”

The now deceased was allegedly shot in the shoulder from the back as he blocked the suspects from driving off in the victim’s vehicle. The robbery victim took the injured man to a clinic where he was certified dead on arrival.
