Savouring the sweetness of victory

ALEXANDRA – Minerva Secondary School boys' team annihilates their counterparts from Balfour Park's Northview High School in the SCZ Schools Tournament.

You don’t always have to be a team player to savour the sweetness of victory as shown by Minerva Secondary School girls.

The girls could not pass up the momentous occasion to join in the celebrations and show off the spoils of victory after Minerva were crowned the champions of the 6th edition of the Sibusiso Cosmos Zwane Schools Tournament.

The celebrations followed the annihilation by Minerva boys’ soccer team of Balfour Park’s Northview High School. Minerva walloped Northview 6–0 in a one-sided match played at the Number 3 Square Grounds in Alexandra on 21 September.

The schools’ girls on the sidelines not only had the opportunity to witness the brilliance of the boys but especially their golden boy, 18-year-old Katlego ‘KGenius’ Mampa.

Katlego, who’s a former development player of Kaizer Chiefs and has since been snapped up by Highlands Park, was a thorn in the flesh of Northview and almost single-handedly destroyed his opponents with a hat-trick of goals in the first half of the game.

He got some little help from his friends to enable the team to reach the astronomical six goals on the day.
