Rotary Club and Alex partnership consolidates

ALEXANDRA – Sandton Rotary Club continues its humanitarian aid to Alex

Rotary Club of Sandton Central extended its hand of kindness to Alex residents for the seventh year through a health promotion day.

The recent event which was conducted nationwide saw the charity organisation partner with government departments and NPOs to raise awareness on prevention and treatment of ailments including HIV/AIDS, polio, diabetes, measles and high blood pressure. “The free services also focus on creating awareness against teenage pregnancies, other sexually-related ailments and promote healthy diets and exercises particularly to the elderly with compromised immunity,” said Rotarian Susanne Nell.

She added that key social sector departments of health and social development used the platform to combine health awareness creation with treatment, testing and advising on prevention methods against most common and chronic ailments. “They distributed male and female condoms to prevent sexually transmitted, unplanned pregnancies especially among the youth.”

The event was a continuation of the club’s ongoing contribution to improving lives of the township’s residents. “We occasionally, distribute blankets to needy households and orphanages, sanitary pads to school girls so that they do not miss class when menstruating and partner with the media to spread awareness on services available for other essential needs.”

The City of Joburg’s Emergency Management Services was also on hand to create awareness on fire prevention methods.
