Youth centre celebrates 34 years

ALEXANDRA - YOUTH centre celebrates 34 years of existence with entertainment from various dance groups.

The youth of Alexandra showed off their dancing talent in front of a vibrant audience at Thusong Youth Centre’s birthday celebration.

The centre which is a haven to many of Alexandra’s youth was celebrating 34 years of existence. Dancers of Public Creativity Drama Crew, Moving into Dance, African Dance Theatre, Kasi Poetic and Black Diamond performed various contemporary dance pieces.

Dance co-ordinator, Joseph Rapola said celebrating 34 years of the centre was a milestone. “We have been running dance workshops so we want to show the great talent and hard work that has gone into the dances,” said Rapola.

Centre manager Beauty More, who has been like a mother to most of the centre’s youth for 27 years, said she was happy to see that the centre had grown so much. “We have had challenges, but we have achieved a lot and I am very happy that the centre has come so far,” said More.

The centre has been a pillar of strength for Alexandra’s youth, producing artists, parliamentarians and business people. The centre’s choir, Agapa closed the celebrations with harmonious songs of praise.
