Five-year sentence for toy gun robber
ALEXANDRA – Parkmore garage robber nabbed with loot, toy gun
A man who was declared a danger to society was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to five years’ imprisonment for robbery aggravating.
This following a business robbery which Ezra Balie committed alone at a garage in Parkmore on 3 October. He was arrested shortly after by security guards alerted to the incident. He got to the garage and asked a cashier for ‘cashback’ of R2 000. When she said they didn’t have the system, he produced a gun and demanded money. The victim opened the cash till placed it on the counter and the accused took all the money and left.
The victim pressed a panic prompting the reaction by the guards who tracked and apprehended the accused nearby. He was brought back to the crime scene and positively identified by the victim leading to his arrest. Some of the money he is suspected to have stolen and a toy gun suspected to have been used in the incident were retrieved from him.
