Little Miss Alex inscribed in Kasi’s calender
ALEXANDRA – Young girls' pageant kicks off in Alex.
History could be in the making for young Alex girls aspiring to be future Miss SA and Miss World pageant queens.
And it could all start at the Little Miss Alex Pageant which was launched at Thusong Youth Centre, the historical hub which has unearthed many local and globally acclaimed artists of various genres.
Despite financial challenges, pageant host and founder Mpho Molao of Ekasilamakasi Talent Show put on an entertaining event. It culminated in the crowning of seven-year-old Temika Pieterse of Inkanyezi Waldorf Primary School as the inaugural queen. Her first and second princesses were Sphiwe Dlamini and Ayanda Dlamini, who are unrelated.
“The pageant fulfilled its aim to empower little girls and showcase Alex’s raw talent,” said Molao. “Also, the motive is to keep the young ones off the streets and help them find a hobby… there aren’t many activities to keep little girls motivated and working towards their dreams.”
The build-up to the event included other activities which encouraged the contestants to be confident public speakers, embrace and exploit their talent and to be involved in community work.
