Pick n Pay in Pan Africa Mall is an epitome of corporate social responsibility

ALEXANDRA – Mthombeni said after she opened the car, news quickly flew to the capital to inform her family about the new member of the family.

Dyna Mthombeni (27) who lives in Highlands North could not believe it when the car keys she chose during a car competition in Pick n Pay, Pan Africa Mall opened a brand new Datsun Go on 3 November.

“I’ve never owned a car in my life and I had no plan to get one anytime soon. I couldn’t believe my eyes when the keys I chose opened the door of the car. I called my mom to tell her about the good news and she was very happy,” said Mthombeni.

One of the directors at the food retailer, Oliver Phahla said as a business that operated in a community they had an obligation to give back to its members and lend a helping hand to those in need.

“Our store has been an integral part of Alexandra’s big family since we opened the doors 10 years ago. Today we gave away a brand new car to one of our customers who bought something and deposited her till slip in the box. Dyna’s name was among those that were randomly picked for a draw,” he said.

Phahla added that the business would continue to support the Alexandra community through collaborations with community-based organisations and local schools.

“Every year we give away laptops to the top matric learners to use as they pursue their studies at tertiary institutions. We also help them with registration fees while they wait for financial aid from the government. We have also adopted a number of old age homes and orphanage homes locally to help them meet their needs.”
