Court tells Mavis Mlalandle to go home and take care of her grandchildren

ALEXANDRA – The magistrate wasted no time to withdraw the charges faced by Mlalandle who had a bottle of water to drink after every minute while in the dock to go home.


The Alexandra Magistrate Court has withdrawn charges faced by the ‘Alex mother’ who was accused of pouring boiling water on her elder daughter.

Sixty-three-year-old Mlalandle was charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm after she allegedly poured boiling water on her 29-year-old daughter Sibongile Fredericks on 19 September at their home in 7th Avenue, Alexandra.

This was after the court prosecutor Nduduzo Jiyane told the court that the docket had not been received from the investigation officer. This was the third time the investigation officer failed to bring the docket to the court.

Alex News reported in the article, Burns mother fails to pitch [Week ending 1 November 2019] that the court had issued a warrant arrest for Mlalandle which was later withdrawn after she arrived in court late, claiming that she was in a wrong courtroom.

During the argument in court, the defense lawyer argued that it would be unfair for the court to continue with the matter and subject the senior citizen to the agony of coming to court for more than three consecutive weeks without a docket.

The magistrate wasted no time to withdraw the charges faced by Mlalandle who had a bottle of water to drink after every minute while in the dock. The magistrate told Mlalandlego ‘to go home and take care of her grandchildren’.

Speaking to Alex News outside the court, the complainant Sbongile Fredericks said she will escalate the matter to the provincial level if her docket was not found.

“I am very disappointed by the justice system of our country. How can a docket that was opened last month disappear and no one knows about it – even the investigating officer. I will speak to the Alexandra Police Station commander or escalate the matter to the provincial level if nothing is done.”
