Community is ‘gatvol’ with crime
ALEXANDRA - COMMUNITY of Alexandra is 'gatvol' with crime and unsolved cases.
Some residents of Alexandra have called for the resignation of the township’s police station commander, Brigadier David Ngcobo.
This after protestors fed up with crime in the area marched to the Alexandra police station to hand in a memorandum of demands.
With murders, burglaries, rape and unsolved crimes on the increase, Bruce Sarela, chairperson of the ANC Youth League for Ward 91 said the community had lost faith in the Alexandra police and its station commander. “We need someone who is passionate and educated about crime,” he said referring to Ngobo’s leadership.
Sarela said the police were not doing their job and there were not enough patrol cars, especially at night. “Criminals are not even worried because they know that they can get away with murder,” he said.
Ncgobo refused to comment on the march or the memorandum of demands. “I have no comment at all on that matter,” he said.
