Final call for maths competition
ALEXANDRA – Alex schools urged not to miss out on maths challenge.
A final call has been made to Alexandra schools and learners to participate in this year’s Nestlé Nespray South African Mathematics Challenge.
This following a successful 2019 event they missed out on which attracted over 1 000 schools and 80 000 learners nationwide. “All schools and learners from grades 4 to 7 are encouraged to participate in this fun and exciting mathematics challenge,” the invitation from the organisers SA Mathematics Foundation and Association of Mathematics Education SA read.
The 43-year-old competition which started in 1977 is lauded for developing maths competency skills required by children who become future leaders across all walks through their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. “Primary schools across the country are encouraged to enter the challenge no later than
28 February.”
Others attributes of the competition are:
- It’s recognised as one of the best vehicles that promotes maths as an important subject in primary school
- It improves participants’ mathematical knowledge and understanding of problem-solving concepts as they advance in grades.
