Water outage forces school and libraries in some parts of Region E to close for business

LOMBARDY– Joburg Water has apologised to communities affected by an unplanned water outage in some parts of Region E.

Joburg Water has apologised to communities that were affected by an unplanned water outage in some parts of Region E on 5 March.

Schoolchildren were sent home and some libraries forced to close for business following the outage which Joburg Water spokesperson Isaac Dhludhlu said was the result of burst pipe that was damaged by a contractor. He apologised to all the affected communities.

“A contractor damaged the pipe and thus the Randjieslaagte Reservoir has been closed to do repairs on a damaged pipe that supplies water to the different parts of Region E. Areas fed by the Randjieslaagte Reservoir include Lombardy, Rembradt Park, Lyndhurst, Sunningdale, Glenhazel, Melrose Arch and surrounding areas,” Dhludhlu added.

Residents were only able to access water at about 3pm after the pipe was successfully fixed by the utility’s technical team.

To report burst pipes or leaking water contact Joburg Water on 0860 562 874, customer@jwater.co.za or SMS 076 333 5052.
