Honda opens Alex dealership
ALEXANDRA - Honda South Africa opens a bike dealership in Alexandra's Pan Africa Mall.
Alexandra’s growing population of motorbike enthusiasts will no longer have to travel far and wide to buy their prized new set of wheels or to have them serviced.
This is because Honda South Africa has opened a new motorbike dealership on their doorstep at the Pan Africa Mall. Known as Honda Alexandra, the dealership was opened with pomp and ceremony on 3 November. Honda Alex is the first of many emerging-market dealers envisaged by the motorcycle dealer.
The opening started off with a breakfast run hosted by the local motorcycle club, the Assault Riderz, which was led by its president Eugene Makhene, who also runs the sales arm of Honda Alex. Starting at the new dealership just behind the Pan Africa Mall, the bike entourage made its way to Honda’s training facility the African Dream Adventures aka the Honda Academy outside Pretoria.
Once the run was over, the gaggle of bikes then filtered into Alex with hooters blowing and engines revving, signalling the official opening. Droves of Alex community members were drawn to the venue by the sheer noise and spectacle of the event.
The cutting of the tape ceremony was led by Honda Motor Southern Africa president Yoshiaki Nakamura and Suping Pooe, manager of Honda’s Emerging Market Development programme. “This is our pilot dealership in Alexandra, and our plans are to bring motorcycle mobility to every man, woman and child in South Africa,” Nakamura said.
“We see huge value in this market and are striving to bring Hondas to the masses through well-priced, reliable products, finance schemes that are not out of reach of this specific type of consumer, as well as the usual service and back up you would expect,”
When formalities were wrapped up, guests, staff and visitors embarked on a mass ride or walk into Alex which was led by members of the area’s Nyaope School carrying 19 trees to be planted in the streets. The Nyaope School is group of young activists in the township opposed to drug abuse, and especially the new drug nyaope which is used like dagga.
