Youth Employment Service and Alex Mall donate 20 000 masks to limit the spread of Covid-19 in Alexandra

RIVER PARK – Bophela appealed to community members to 'mask up' and apply basic preventive measures to stop the spread and unnecessary infections.

In their concentrated efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19, the Youth Employment Service (Yes) in partnership with Alex Mall management joined forces to donate 20 000 home-sewn and washable face masks to residents of Alexandra.

Yes is a pioneering, business-driven initiative which has partnered with the government and labour to tackle South African’s youth unemployment crisis and drive youth employability.

Alex Mall marketing manager Lilly Bophela said the initiative is aimed at helping access masks. “As a community-centric organisation, we want to ensure that many people have access to masks in order to help them limit the spread of coronavirus. Masks are viewed as one of the effective tools to protect some of the most economically vulnerable citizens across the globe. As we navigate this pandemic, we are doing all possible to help the community prevent the spread of the virus,” she said.

Bophela appealed to community members to ‘mask up’ and apply basic preventive measures to stop the spread and unnecessary infections to themselves and others. “We are appealing to our community to use masks and protect each other while protecting themselves. Each step we take to fight the spread of this virus will have an impact and we need to work together to keep our families, friends and colleagues safe and healthy during this trying time,” Bophela said.
