Carter primary bright spark scoops all the awards
ALEXANDRA - Young Kethabile Mafoko steals the show and scoops all the awards at Carter Primary School end of year function.
Grade 7 pupil Kethabile Mafoko was the talk of Carter Primary School.
Mafoko scooped the most awards at the school’s prize giving ceremony and proved that hard work pays off. “I was not expecting this at all, ” she said. “But wow, I am very happy and excited. I work hard and study hard and that was shown today. This is a great day for me.”
Her proud mother, Joyce could not contain her excitement as she held some of her daughter’s trophies. “I am grateful and would like to thank God for bringing up my child like this. I am very happy.”
Some of Kethablile’s awards included best student for maths, social sciences and the teachers’ choice award for best student. She was also one of the top performing pupils in her grade.
But she was not the only one who reaped the rewards of her hard work. The top 10 pupils from grade 4 to 7 were given trophies and certificates, and some were honoured for representing the school with distinction in different sporting codes.
School principal, Siva Naicker said this was a special academic function. “We want to keep it like this,” she said. “We want to honour those who have done well and also motivate those who have not received anything. They must not give up.”
