Alex orphans celebrate

ALEXANDRA - Orphans from two homes in Alex had a time of their life when lavish Christmas parties were thrown for them.

In the spirit of giving Samaritans from Alexandra gave back to children.

There were two Christmas parties dedicated to the children of Alex on Friday and this saw many happy faces.

Ingrid Moloi, founder of Ratang Bana, an NGO that focuses on vulnerable children and families affected by HIV/Aids said, “We do this every year to make children happy. We buy them presents and provide entertainment and our vision is to put smiles on their faces. They must not feel like orphans or that no one cares about them.”

The children were given gifts which included school stationery and toiletries. “I am very honoured to have made this possible,” Moloi said.

Not far from the Ratang Bana celebration more than 200 children gathered at Thusong Youth Centre for their Christmas party. This was the fourth and last party for the year and the centre’s Beauty More said she was very happy with the turnout.

“We only have to tell one child about the event and the next thing you know there’s dozens of them,” she said. “We have different sponsors including Selimathunzi.”

The children were entertained by song and dance, and they also played and had fun.
