ALEXANDRA - Police here have arrested two suspects driving around the township in a suspected stolen vehicle.

Alex police have arrested two suspects in a hijacked white Toyota Fortuna after a high-speed chase in Tsutsumani’s South Africa Loop Street.

The suspects, aged 28 and 38 were first spotted in the vehicle driving along Vincent Tshabalala Road at 10am. Patrolling Alexandra police tried to stop the vehicle but the suspects sped off and disappeared into the township.

The same car was later spotted in Tsutsumani and police gave chase. The driver lost control and crashed into a house in 1146 South Africa Loop Street. The driver and passenger were uninjured.

Police discovered that the Fortuna, which was hijacked in Midrand in October this year, had been fitted with false number plates. Luckily they found the original plates inside the car, including balaclavas, gloves and crowbars, which cops suspect were used to commit crimes.

Maphakela said the suspects, one from Alex and the other from Hammanskraal, will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on a charge of hijacking and possession of implements allegedly for the commission of crimes.
