Cellphone thug on the run
ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra are looking for a suspect who made off with a man's cellphone after grabbing it in the early hours of the morning.
The Tsutsumani victim said he was waiting for a taxi at the corner of Alfred Nzo Street and 12th Avenue next to the Engen garage at about 2am when he was joined by another man.
After waiting for a while, the suspect offered to organise the complainant a lift but he declined. The suspect then asked to use the complainant’s cellphone to make a call as his battery was low.
The unsuspecting victim gave him his cellphone and after fidgeting for a few moments, the man took off with the victim’s cellphone. The complainant described him as a medium-built man who spoke fluent Setswana and had a scar under his right eye. Alex police have opened a case of theft.
