Police warn of armed robbers
ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra have issued a warning to residents of Extension 7, 8, 9 and 10 about armed robbers on the prowl.
This follows numerous incidents of armed men praying on the residents in the middle of the night or early morning and making off with various valuables such as plasma television sets, cellphones, wallets and money.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the latest incident involved a family living in Ext 7. The victim said five men, four of them armed with firearms, burst into the house at about 10pm, speaking broken Zulu and ordered them to lie on the floor.
They then ransacked the house and made off with three cellphones to the value of R1 000, a plasma television set worth R15 000 and R900 in cash. The victim said one of the robbers, who was not armed, was known to him as Frans and lived on the same street in Ext 7.
Maphakela said the police were still investigating a case of armed robbery and that no arrests have been made.
