Landlord stabs tenant with a broken beer bottle
ALEXANDRA - An irate landlord who's owed rent since 2009 stabbed his defaulting tenant with a broken beer bottle.
A frustrated landlord stabbed his defaulting tenant with a broken beer bottle.
The tenant had not paid rent since 2009.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Mapakela said the 39-year-old victim of 11th Avenue said he had left home to buy some food at about 9:30pm when he met his landlord.
Without uttering a single word, the landlord lunged for him and stabbed the victim in his neck. Bleeding excessively, he rushed to Alex Clinic where he was treated and discharged. He then went to open a case at Alexandra Police Station and the landlord was later arrested.
Maphakela said the landlord is due to appear before a magistrate in the Alexandra courts to face a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The victim told police that he had stopped paying to his landlord on the advice of the South African National Civic Organisation just over four years ago. He alleged he had a rent-to-buy agreement with the landlord and had been paying R250 per month since 2005.
He would not discuss the details of the agreement, but in March last year he obtained a court protection order which forbade the landlord from setting foot in the victim’s house to demand rent.
