Realogile Secondary wins girls six-aside trophy
ALEXANDRA - Realogile secondary girls' soccer team are inaugural winners of the schools six aside trophy.
Realogile Secondary’s girls soccer team are inaugural winners of the schools six-aside trophy.
The tournament was launched with the boys’ competition on 12 March at 3 Square sports grounds.
Realogile won 2-0 on penalties against a determined Liberty College team. Both teams teams played well but failed to convert many chances partly due to good goalkeeping and erratic shots at goal. As the match progressed Realogile got the upper hand and relied more on Banyana Banyana trialist, Zingawe Phakhati who orchestrated most of the precision passes which the strikers unfortunately failed to convert in regulation time. Zingawe eventually led her team to victory by converting the third penalty kick for the win.
Expressing delight about the victory, Zingawe credited a team effort. “We were determined to win this first ever well-organised girls soccer tournament in Alexandra,” she said. “Our solid defence made sure of this victory which I hope we will defend for a long time. Even though I am a trialist at national level, I still learn a lot from playing with my school peers and hope the tournament will boost my chances for selection into Banyana Banyana,” she said.
Zingawe plays for Blue Birds Football Club. She attended four days of trials with Banyana Banyana at the high performance centre in Pretoria. She hopes to be selected for the team being assembled by new Dutch coach Vera Pauw.
