Women in the construction industry will be honoured
JOBURG - The 2nd annual Women in Construction Excellence Awards is set to honour more women in construction.
The African construction industry will honour women who excel in the industry at the Totally Concrete’s Women in Construction Excellence Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre. The event will be hosted by Totally Concrete Expo in conjunction with African Construction Expo to will recognise women who contribute to the socio-economic transformation of the continent on 28 May.
Professor Danladi Matawal, CEO of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute and a member of Totally Concrete Expo’s Advisory Board, said that women in construction play a significant role in Africa.
“It is important to put in place some sort of award to push through African women from Egypt to Ghana and Nigeria and South Africa to pursue careers in construction,” remarked the professor.
Elizabeth O’Leary, previous recipient of the transformation and excellence awards agreed with his statement and lauded the effort put into recognising excellence by women in the industry.
“The more we acknowledge the positives…the more…men and women will say: yes, women are contributing to the industry and more opportunities will come along,” said O’ Leary.
The Construction Expo offers finance and management tools for infrastructure project delivery and the two events are expected to attract an estimated 4000 participants from about 40 countries worldwide.
The Totally Concrete Expo is endorsed by over 60 industry associations and sponsored by Lafarge, AfriSam, Reimer and Nyeleti Consulting to name a few and will feature 150 speakers, including some of Africa’s leading women in the industry women.
Speakers include such as Lulla Krugel, a senior economist, Santie Gouws of Concrete Growth and Itumeleng Dlamini, Executive Director of Master Builders South Africa, Participants from over 25 African countries will be in attendance at the ceremony.
