Ubuntu for gogo

ALEXANDRA - A young businessman and ANC youths have teamed together to rebuild gogo Nomgqibelo Mkhwanazi's house demolished by an errant motorist last year.

A young businessman, Ephraim Ranamane and some ANC youths have teamed up together to rebuild gogo Nomgqibelo Mkhwanazi’s house demolished by an errant motorist last year.

Fortunately, Mkhwananzi and her two grandchildren were lucky to escape unhurt in the incident which happened in July last year (Gogo told to foot the bill, week ending 4 October). Since then, Mkhwananzi has rented a house nearby after the Alexandra Renewal Project which allocated her the house, refused to help her.

The motorist, Nqobile Hlabangane had offered to repair the house, but was thwarted by councillor Joyce Ngwenya who expected the city council’s housing department to do so. Hlabangane had already delivered bricks for the repairs.

Ranamane who started his construction business in 2007, provided building material and builders while the ANC youth league members in Alexandra contributed labour and technical support.

Mkhwananzi said, “I am very happy and thank these children for making it possible for me to return to my house after the broken promises.”
Ranamane was happy to help Mkhwananzi and said, “It is people like her [the elderly] that we owe our being and are indebted to for our successes in life. We should care for them every way we can specially when they get older. I encourage youths in general not to abuse, but care for the elderly in the true spirit of Ubuntu.”

Ranamane urged youths to concentrate on education which would help them become professionals, be successful business owners and develop into more caring individuals. He also committed to buy Mkhwananzi groceries when she moved back into her house.
