Fairways primary pupil awarded scholarship

ORANGE GROVE - Fairways Primary School pupil Emma Rogers has been awarded the first National Children’s Theatre scholarship.

Fairways Primary School pupil Emma Rogers has been awarded the first National Children’s Theatre scholarship.

Orange Grove resident Rogers (11), is the proud and deserving recipient of the scholarship which has been instituted by the theatre and will be awarded annually to a deserving workshopper in one of the many workshops that the theatre runs during the year.

The merit-based scholarship is awarded to a student who possesses exceptional talent in dance, drama and singing, and who shows promise and dedication to theatre arts as well as loyalty to National Children’s Theatre as an institution.

She joined the theatre workshops in 2011, studying dance, drama and singing, and has been in four productions such as a Pocket Oliver, Annie Jr, Honk Jr, and in the December 2013 production of Seussical Jr where she starred in the part of Jojo.

Rogers is an all-rounder. In addition to studying piano and modern dancing, she also plays in the cricket and soccer teams, and is a member of the swimming team and the choir at her school.

She would like to take acting further by studying musical theatre once she gets to varsity. Rogers reads a lot of books, which are “mostly fantasy and adventure”.

She said it was tricky deciding what her favourite read was, as she had read all the Harry Potter books and is now focusing on Percy Jackson.
