Newborn found dumped
ALEXANDRA - A newly born infant was found by passers-by dumped in an alleyway at the Pan Africa Shopping Centre in Alexandra.
A newborn baby girl was found by passersby in an alleyway at the Pan Africa Shopping Centre in Alexandra.
According to Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela the child is believed to have been born early on 9 April and was discovered at about 6pm.
The passersby took the infant to the local radio station which in turn called the police. Maphakela said a case of child dumping was opened at the Alexandra Police Station and the child was then taken to a place of safety. Her health is said to be excellent.
“We appeal to the public to assist the police to track down the mother of the infant. Anyone with information can report to the police at the station,” Maphakela said. It is not known where the child’s mother gave birth.
