Alex police want to make Tsutsumani safer
ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra have appealed to the public to help them crackdown on suspects responsible for a spate robberies in Tsutsumani.
Police in Alexandra have appealed to the public to help them crackdown on suspects responsible for a spate robberies in Tsutsumani.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the police were concerned by the spiraling cases of robberies in Tsutsumani, where a gang of two suspects often rob residents as they make their way home to and from work in the early hours of the morning and late at night.
“We call on the residents of Tsutsumani to report these suspects. If they know these people committing these heinous crimes, the public can anonymously report them to the police sector vehicles or the police station.”
“We are keen to clean that part of Alexandra as crime has become a sore point, as many residents now live in fear of being victims of robberies each time they venture out of their houses,” Maphakela said.
This comes after yet another man was robbed of his valuables in the Nigeria Street section of Tsutsumani. According to Maphakela, the victim was walking home from work at about 11pm when he met two men who asked him for some matches.
The victim told them he had no matches in his possession. As they parted ways, he was suddenly grabbed from behind by his neck and pulled off the road. The suspects then searched him and took away his cellphone worth about R4 000, a watch, bank cards, and his wallet with R50 in it.
Maphakela said the victim said he can identify the suspects if they are arrested, as he had a close look at them during the time they asked for matches.
