Man beaten up after demanding his change

ALEXANDRA - A man has been arrested for allegedly beating up another man who had demanded that he be given back his change after making a payment for a debt.

A man has been arrested for allegedly beating up another man who had demanded that he be given back his change after repaying a debt.

According to Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela the victim had been been asked by his neighbour to go and park his car. As he drove off, the victim was approached by a man he owed R10 to.

Since the neighbour had given him R100 to go and park the car, the victim decided to pay his debt to the man. He gave him a R100 note under the pretext that the man would go to a Spaza shop and get some change.

The victim then proceeded to park the car and upon his return the man had not returned with his change. He went to the man’s house to fetch what he was owed. When confronted by the victim, the man denied ever receiving a R100 note. He insisted the victim gave him R10. This was confirmed by the suspect’s young brother, but their mother confirmed her son had brought in R100.

An argument ensued and the man’s brother punched the victim in the face. As the victim covered his face, the man’s brother grabbed hold of an object and hit him again in his face. The victim fell down unconscious.

When he came round he went to the Alex Clinic where he was treated for injuries to his left arm and eye. The suspect has since been arrested and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
