Tricksters at work at Pan Africa Mall
ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra have warned of tricksters at work at the Pan Africa Mall.
Alex police spokesperson Warrant Moses Maphakela issued a warning to Alex residents to beware of tricksters at work at the Pan Africa Mall.
This after an Eastbank man who had come to the shopping complex to buy some dog food was robbed. The victim said he was approached by a man who claimed he needed help to offload goods from his bakkie.
As they were going to the bakkie, the man met other men and asked them to join him to go and offload the goods and they did. He then asked the other men to hand over their goods for safekeeping while offloading.
The men handed over their parcels and the trickster disappeared into the complex and came back with them wrapped.
The trickster then demanded the same from the Eastbank man who refused.
The trickster then went to fetch a woman to try and convince the Eastbank men to hand over his cellphone and tablet and he still refused. The trickster then snatched them from him and bolted. The Eastbank man gave chase but could not catch up.
He returned to the woman and demanded his tablet, cellphone and dog food. The woman then confessed that she and her boyfriend were “at work” and told the Eastbank man his dog food had been taken by the other men who had joined them with the the offloading.
The Eastbank man then called the police who arrested the woman. She will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court soon on allegations of theft under false pretences. Alex police said they were still hunting for the suspect who bolted with the tablet and cellphone, whom the woman claimed was her boyfriend.
