Chaos in Alexandra for Rea Vaya jobs
Over 500 people turned up for Rea Vaya jobs in Alexandra earlier today.
Earlier today chaos broke out at the Sankopano hall in Alexandra, 12th Avenue.
Members from The Rea Vaya bus rapid transit system was offering jobs to Alexandra residents, but the number of unemployed residents seeking jobs overwhelmed the team at the hall.
It is believed that there were only 100 job posts available but more than 500 people showed up at the hall seeking jobs. The gates to the hall had to be shut because of the large numbers of people on the premises. Members of the Alexandra police station had to report to the scene to ensure that the residents kept calm.
The team from Rea Vaya had to abandon the hall and they did not say when they will be returning. The residents then began to leave peacefully.
