THE STAGE has been set for Linksfield-based Mpumalanga Black Aces to hone their football skills in Japan, called the land of the rising sun.
This follows the signing of a sponsorship deal at Parktown’s Emoyeni Conference Centre between Aces and Japan’s International Sports promotion Society (ISPS) which is headed by international philanthropist, writer and businessman Dr Haruhisa Handa.
The multi-million deal will, besides being a financial backbone for Aces, also see an exchange of development players between the club and those clubs connected to Handa in Japan.
“I am not in a position to disclose the exact figure of the sponsorship, as these matters are confidential issues between the sponsor and those being sponsored. I think it’s safe to say it’s a multi-million rand deal,” Handa said.
He jokingly added: “If we were to openly disclose it, it would make other teams jealous.”
Handa said there was an undeniable power that football has in speaking to the masses and making real changes in Africa.
“The community work being done by Aces is something we are proud of and happy to support within our newly-found mutual association,” Handa said.
“We will also facilitate the exchange of development players between Aces and our football connections in Japan to further the ideals of the ISPS, which is a society for the global promotion of harmony in sport.”
Aces co-chairman, Mario Morfou, pledged that his club would be good ambassadors of the ISPS brand and its ideals.
“Football is about creating partnerships, and we really appreciate this global investment coming to our club and totally embrace the vision and ideals for which the ISPS stands for,” he said.
