Delta Choshi inspires children
ALEXANDRA - Hundred children under 10 years were last weekend kept off the street exploring their talents in dance.
One hundred children under the age of 10 were kept off the street by exploring their talents in dance.
This was at a live, learn and inspire workshop at Eastbank hall were the children were also motivated on the importance of leading good, disciplined lives and the value of education.
The workshop was facilitated by Delta Choshi, a resident of Tsutsumani. Choshi is a professional dancer, choreographer, rapper, DJ and motivational speaker who has won local and international dance contests. She has won the Masters of rhythm award, Blackberry free-styling challenge and the UDO World street dance in Scotland. She brought in other local artists to also inspire the children.
Choshi said the workshop was to help the children discover and live up to their dreams. “I want them to internalise that there is no limit to what one can do and achieve provided you realise your talent,” she said. “This platform provides them this opportunity as part of the first step towards careers in dance and other art- related opportunities.”
She added that often children missed out on opportunities because they were not assisted to realise their interests and talents from a young age. “The workshop will help them take initiative, introduce them to the importance of discipline and resilience required to make it in this profession. Also the same attributes will help them to perform well in school.”
At the end of the workshop 60 children were selected to participate in a dance show in September with children chosen from workshops in Soweto and the East Rand.
Sizwe Mkhize of event conveners, Dichaba Media said the workshop was the beginning of a drive to expose the nation’s future dance talent.
