Boy beats up neighbour for admonishing child

ALEXANDRA - A boy who allegedly beat up his 44-year-old neighbour for admonishing his younger sister against throwing stones while playing next to the man's car has been detained by Alex police.

A boy who allegedly beat up his 44-year-old neighbour has been detained by Alex police.

The boy, believed to be in his 20’s, is said to have assaulted his neighbour for admonishing the boy’s younger sister for throwing stones while playing next to the man’s car.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the 15th Avenue victim was informed by a neighbouring child that two other children were playing next to his car and throwing stones.

The victim went outside to check and found there was one child. He then reprimanded the child and warned her against the dangers of throwing stones next to a car before checking for any damage to his vehicle.

The man then went back into his house but when he got inside, his wife decided they should go shopping. Before they could climb into the car, he saw the girl’s brother coming hastily towards them.

The brother accused him of beating his younger sister which the victim denied and explained that he had only reprimanded her.

The brother started swearing at the man before punching him in the left eye, causing it to swell.

The victim went straight to the Alexandra Police Station to open a case before going to the Alex Clinic for treatment.

Maphakela said the boy had since been arrested and will appear before a magistrate in the Alexandra Court on charges of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
