Metro police stage sit-in after vehicle restrictions
MARLBORO - After staging a sit-in at the Marlboro depot on 10 October, 44 Metro Police officers could face disciplinary action.
According to Metro Police spokesperson Chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar, 44 officers refused to conduct their duties in Region E this morning.
“They refused to comply with the instruction that official vehicles will only be used for official duties and will no longer be taken home,” he said.
Minnaar said the matter was being investigated and the officers may face disciplinary action.
“Sergeants and some officers were on duty, but not all of the officers involved in the sit-in had returned to work,” said Minnaar.
He explained the move to restrict the use of official vehicles was previously implemented, but was resuscitated in Region E two months ago.
