Eskom: No load shedding today

JOBURG - No power cuts as a result of the Majuba Power Station crisis are expected anywhere in the country on 3 November.

Eskom’s spokesperson Andrew Etzinger said the power utility was not expecting to implement load shedding provided that there were no other problems.

According to City Power, municipal customers would also be spared from the forced power cuts as the municipal entity would not be implementing load shedding following the announcement by Eskom.

According to a presentation by Eskom’s chief executive, Tshediso Matona during an impromptu press conference on 2 November, Stage 2 load shedding on the day would build up reserves for the week ahead.

Matona projected today’s evening peak demand forecast at 31 317 MW – highest of the day – and power generation capacity at 31 500 MW provided that there were no further breakdowns.

However, the power utility continued to urge consumers to use electricity sparingly as the power system remained under pressure.

Eskom was forced to implement power cuts after a coal storage silo collapsed at its Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga on 1 November.

Eskom customers can search for the load shedding schedules relevant to their area on Eskom’s website by clicking here.

Municipal customers can view the municipal load shedding schedule by clicking here, which according to City Power was a standard schedule provided by Eskom.
