Here are five ways to keep yourself entertained without electricity.
Shopping, shopping and more shopping.
Large malls and shopping centres are equipped with generators so they don’t lose business during these trying times of load shedding. This makes the mall the perfect place to be when you don’t have electricity at home. Take the kids out for dinner and a movie. If you’re working on a budget, don’t let anyone stop you from doing a little window shopping with the family.
Missing your favourite TV series?
Create your own drama at home. Get the family together to play Charades or act out how you think the next episode of your favourite series will play out. Get the whole family involved for some laughs and entertainment.
Play board games
Everybody loves board games, so whip out your old Monopoly set, 30 Seconds, Scrabble, Clue or any other board game that you have lying around. You can play these games in the day time or by candlelight at night, so get gaming. Board gaming.
Get the braai stand out
We are South African and there’s nothing we love more than a good braai. Pull out the braai-stand and invite the neighbours over, because as long as there’s load shedding we have the perfect excuse for everyday to be braai day. Meat, cold salads, rolls and an ice bucket for your drinks is all you’ll need.
Finally, if you really just hate being without electricity, there is a simple solution that doesn’t involve you breaking the bank to buy a generator. What you can do is find a friend who isn’t experiencing load shedding and put on your best puppy dog eyes to convince them to let you stay and if that doesn’t work – chocolate always does.
