Armed robbers appear in court
ALEXANDRA - Two men arrested in connection with last week's [Thursday] armed robbery of a tobacco truck in Buccleuch have appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate's Court.
Two men arrested in connection with an armed robbery of a truck carrying cigarettes on 30 October in Buccleuch have appeared at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
They were part of a gang whose other members are still at large.
The men, one from Rabie Ridge, Kempton Park and Alexandra appeared before Magistrate Renier Boshoff on charges of aggravated robbery, attempted murder relating to a shootout with policemen, and possession of illegal and unlicensed firearms. They pleaded not guilty.
Their case was postponed to 13 November to enable further investigation into the possibilities of the men being linked to other crimes.
The robbery was dramatic and involved a shootout and a high speed chase by the police, and the use of a police chopper from Rabie Ridge to the M1 where the two robbers were arrested.
