Full programme for Olive Tree Theatre
ALEXANDRA - World acclaimed and Alex born poet and artist will feature at the Olive Tree Theatre's inaugural theatre show for the year.
A theatre piece by world acclaimed Alex-born poet and artist, Wally Serote will feature at the Olive Tree Theatre.
In a packed programme for the year, the theatre’s director Ntsieng Mokgoro said their main aim was to resuscitate township theatre, introduce arts’ cultural values to children, youths and the community, and to make it a platform for business to engage with residents.
The year’s programme includes;
Serote’s theatre piece, Way We Heal on 5 – 7 February. The show portrays a woman on a journey of spiritual healing through traditional ways.
Theatre classes will be conducted from 7 February on drama, dance, film making and percussion.
Alex secondary schools’ theatre festival will be on 27 March.
Theatre for Young Audiences will be on 17 and 18 April.
A futuristic show, Greyman Experience directed by Zimbabwean artist Leeroy Gono will feature from 23- 25 April. It portrays interrelations between men and women in the future.
A Youth Theatre Festival will be staged from 15-19 November featuring youth-directed shows as part of the youth month celebrations.
A poetry festival will take place from 24-26 July.
A corporates festival will be held on 9 September to develop socially-conscious partnerships to uplift communities.
The popular Women’s Festival will take place from 22 October-1 November featuring productions of upcoming women directors.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Child Abuse will be commemorated from 27 November-10 December through debates on women’s issues.
