Cops seek relatives of unclaimed corpses

ALEXANDRA - Cops in Alexandra are seeking the relatives of two unclaimed corpses that have been lying in the government morgue for sometime now.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the bodies of the two men have been in the morgue since December last year. The men were struck by passing motorists as they attempted to cross the two busy freeways in Alexandra.

“We appeal to people who might be missing relatives to come forward and identify the two bodies that have been lying in the government mortuary for some time after the pair were struck by motorists on separate occasions while attempting to cross the freeways,” Maphakela said.

One man suspected to be between the ages of 27 and 30 was hit by a car on the M1 north close to the Colette Drive off-ramp on 13 December at about 11:30pm.

The other incident of another unknown man occurred next to the Marlboro off-ramp on 19 December at about 10pm.

The man, suspected to be aged between 29 and 38, was knocked down by a passing motorist and died on the scene.

Anyone with information about the identities of these two men are asked to contact Warrant Officer Edward Chauke on 078 076 5659.
