The Children’s Library on 3rd Avenue is anticipating an increase in patronage after reopening following maintenance work.
Librarian Precious Mudzulwi said with the opening of schools, an average 300 primary and secondary schoolchildren turned up daily. “We assist secondary students with reference books and also in career guidance for grades 11 and 12 from September. The ones at primary school get all kinds of support, from picture and storybooks to kindle their interest in reading, to research, homework and subject-related material.”
Mudzuli added that more children would be able to use the library if transport was available for the children.
With last year’s matric results down, libraries such as this one could help to improve pupils’ performance at school.
