UJ hosts Thuthuka Jewellery Awards
ALEXANDRA - A lucky winner will walk away with a custom made piece of sterling silver jewellery at the 2014/15 annual Thuthuka Jewellery Awards to held at the University of Johannesburg, Bunting Campus, 7 March.
The awards event will be held at the University of Johannesburg on 7 March.
The event is organised by Thuthuka Jewellery Development Programme, a peer mentorship initiative in jewellery design and manufacturing sponsored by the Department of Arts and Culture. The awards are designed to enhance innovation and excellence in the production of contemporary handmade jewellery, and is open to jewellery students from Further Education and Training colleges, community jewellery schools and universities.
Of the 300 participants, 125 other finalists will exhibit at the event and stand to win in 29 categories. They will be selected by a panel of respected independent judges including Elizabeth Loubser, Masana Chikeka, Tiaan Nagel, Albert Maree, Walter Oltmann and Veronica Anderson.
The winners will receive bursaries and prizes including jeweller’s practice tools to help their entry into the industry.
