Alleged rapist in jail awaiting trial

An Alex man is in custody awaiting trial on a rape charge.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said the 22-year-old is alleged to have raped a 22-year-old female whom he met one evening and asked to accompany him to his home on 3rd Avenue.
On the way, he bought two cans of beer which they drank when they got to his room.
When it started getting late and she wanted to leave, he allegedly asked her not to as he had arranged with his brother to drive her back. The victim said he then allegedly proceeded to fondle her and when she resisted he got angry, saying he couldn’t spend money on a girl and not get anything in return.
He allegedly threatened to assault her with a bottle while instructing her to give him what he wanted. Scared, she settled for a blowjob. While in the act, he allegedly told her to undress, which she did as he was getting angrier. The victim said he then penetrated her without a condom, but she managed to push him off before he ejaculated, and escaped.
A legal expert said rape normally carries a stiff sentence which varies depending on extenuating circumstances, especially the victim’s age. Also, rape victims are advised not to bathe to avoid destroying evidence. He said victims must report the attack to the police and get to a clinic quickly so that they can get protective treatment against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
