Foetus discovered on 13th Avenue (Warning: Graphic Images)

ALEXANDRA - A foetus was found on an Alex street this morning.

A foetus was found on 13th Avenue in Alex on the morning of 27 March.

The discovery was made by a street trader cleaning the area for business, and police were called to the scene. The trader Thozamile Mpande said he discovered the foetus next to a water and sewerage manhole which has been leaking for more than three weeks.

The police covered the foetus with cardboard and were awaiting emergency management services, the forensic department and the mortuary services to arrive.

Mpande said he at first thought it was a rat as they constantly are flushed out of leaking sewerage systems, only to discover it to be a foetus after close scrutiny.

Police at the scene said the incident would be investigated and asked the community to assist with any information.
