ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra have arrested a man who shot and killed his former girlfriend at point blank range before fleeing to his home village in Venda, Limpopo.
Police in Alexandra have arrested a man who shot and killed his former girlfriend at point blank range before fleeing to his home village in Venda, Limpopo.
No motive has been established for the murder of Lorraine Mpho Shibambo of 18th Avenue. According to the spokesperson of the Alexandra cluster of police stations, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela the suspect is said to have arrived at the home of his former girlfriend and demanded to speak to her outside. After a few minutes, relatives inside the house heard gunshots and discovered that Shibambo had been shot. The suspect had fled.
Maphakela said police received information that the suspect had boarded a bus headed for Venda. Alex police called their counterparts in Venda, and the bus was stopped en route and the suspect arrested.
The suspect has since appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 2 April on a charge of murder, and was remanded in custody until a bail application hearing on 7 April.
