Grandson steals from pensioner granny
ALEXANDRA - A grandson has been detained by Alex police for allegedly stealing R1 700 in cash from his pensioner granny of 74 years.
A grandson of a 74-year-old pensioner has been detained by Alex police for allegedly stealing R1 700 in cash from her.
Spokesperson for the Alexandra cluster of police stations Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the granny had just put away the cash when her grandson arrived home and said he wanted to iron his clothes.
He left home without ironing and the suspicious granny went straight to where she had stashed her cash only to find it missing. She asked the neighbours if they had seen him and they went looking for him. The neighbours found the grandson and brought him back to the granny who took him to the police station and opened a case.
The grandson was searched by the police and they allegedly found him in possession of R200. The rest of the money could not be accounted for. Maphakela said the suspect would appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft.
