DA donates gym to hostel children

There was fun and jubilation experienced by children and residents of the Women’s Hostel on 3rd Avenue last weekend when the Democratic Alliance [DA] donated three jungle gyms for the children.

DA councillor Andrew Cadman said the donation was to support children in accessing their right to enjoyment and leisure like other children. “The place has nothing to entertain them and there are no plans from the council in this financial year or prospects for such things from elsewhere for this place.”

He said they are looking to make further donations of soccer-related equipment to help keep boys busy and off the streets after school. Cadman decried the lack of co-operation between them and the local ANC councillor Ambi Maseko who he said had tried to stop the donation, this despite receiving permission from the City to make the donation.

Maseko refuted this saying she had to ensure there was compliance with City regulations regarding donations. A resident Lulama Mfoko said the donation was welcome and they will keep the equipment safe.
