“Police are hot on their heels and we are confident of an arrest soon,” he said.
The men are said to have stormed a scrap dealership in Wynberg at about 4pm on 25 May and held the owner at gunpoint and robbed him of R80 000 before fleeing in various cars.
Patrolling Metro officers received the news and rushed to the scene and cornered two of the 15 men who were still trying to get away in a VW Polo and a green Fiat Uno. Minnaar said he was not certain whether any money was recovered from those arrested. Both cars had been reported stolen.
The arrested suspects are currently being detained at Bramley Police Station and are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court later today, though Minnaar could not confirm this.
