Three men detained for butchery robbery
ALEXANDRA - Three men appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate Court on a case of business robbery and were ordered detained to enable further investigation.
Three men appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court accused of a business robbery and were ordered by the court to be detained to enable further investigations.
The men, said to be part of a gang of six, allegedly robbed a butchery of cash next to Pan Africa Mall.
Alex police spokesperson, Manare Ramotshela, said the robbery occurred at about 6.40pm on 13 June. One of the men allegedly pointed a gun at a security guard who was at the entrance of the butchery and forced the guard to take him to the manager.
The gunman allegedly demanded money, and when the manager said he didn’t have any, four of the gunman’s armed accomplices entered the shop and ordered everyone to lie down. One of them searched the manager and allegedly took his wallet which contained R4 800 cash, bank cards and a driver’s licence. The men started shooting and shot one victim in the leg before fleeing.
The manager found that the tills had allegedly been emptied of R53 000. The manager said the incident happened so quickly that he couldn’t recall their faces. However, police were able to arrest three suspects in Alex. Their three accomplices are still being tracked.
