Alex CPF executive seeks re-election
ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Community Police Forum will hold election at 11.00am, 27 June at the Alex Police Station.
The Alexandra Community Police Forum will hold an election at 11am on 27 June at the Alex Police Station.
Held every five years, the elections are limited to executive members of the sub-forums of the four sector areas. These are the business sector in the Pan Africa Mall area; 1st to 13th Avenue residential area; 14th Avenue to the Jukskei River bank area; and the East, West Bank, Tsutsumani, TB Settlement and 1st to 10th Extension areas. Forum chairperson Bulldog Rathokolo said Setswetla Informal Settlement was excluded as it was part of the Bramley policing forum.
Rathokolo said all current forum executive members, including him, were seeking re-election in the interest of continuity and to enable them to conclude planned programmes. The members are vice-chairperson Eva Temo, Titane Mathebula, deputy secretary who is vying for the secretary position, treasurer Gilliet Ditsego and Elizabeth Mankoe, public relations officer.
Rathokolo said the executive members’ tenure had been challenging with niggling concerns that needed to be resolved through continuity of the executive. This included helping to restore calm at the Alex Police Station after the shooting incident in which Major Thomas Moetlo and three civilians were killed.
Rathokolo added that the public could only attend the election as observers.
The executive’s mandate was as follows:
- To foster good working relations between the community and the police in the war against crime
- To oversee police’s diligence in their duty and to encourage the community to report crime
- To inform and seek remedies from police management about the community’s concerns regarding any misconduct involving police officers
- To ensure policing visibility through joint patrols by registered patrollers and assigned police officers.
