Suspects arrested in hijacked car
ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrate Court remanded two men in custody to enable further investigations in a case of car hi-jacking.
The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court has remanded two men in custody to enable further investigations into a case of motor vehicle hijacking.
Alex police spokesperson Manare Ramotshela said the men allegedly hijacked a grey Opel Corsa near Alexandra at about 6.45am on 29 June. The details of the incident are unknown.
Ramotshela said the vehicle was immediately traced through its tracker system to the corner of Football and Striker streets in Ext 7, Alex. Police on patrol found the vehicle after a few hours. It was parked on the roadside with the two suspects inside. The men were arrested and the vehicle was taken to the police pound.
Ramotshela advised motorists to exercise extra care by keeping car windows closed and doors locked, especially when driving or stopped at intersections along Vincent Tshabalala and Lenin roads as they were crime and hijacking hotspots. He advised the general public to also assist the police by reporting any hijacking or smash-and-grab incidents.
