Suspect jailed for trespassing with pending housebreaking and theft charge
ALEXANDRA - The Alex Magistrate Court sought support of an Ibo language interpreter to convict a Nigerian national to six months in prison for trespassing.
The Alex Magistrates’ Court recently sought the expertise of an Igbo interpreter to gain the conviction of a male to six months in prison for trespassing.
The court heard that the man, Samuel Mwamoola, has another case of housebreaking and theft pending which was committed elsewhere.
Mwamoola’s trespassing charge comes after he was caught one afternoon while allegedly entering the townhouse of a female in Midrand.
He was first spotted by the complex’s security guard allegedly scaling the boundary wall and then getting into the house through an open bathroom window. The security guard is said to have called a colleague and within a short time, the guards allegedly saw him exiting the house again through the same window.
The guards are said to have approached the suspect, and when he ran away, they gave chase and caught him before he could scale the security wall. They searched him and found three cellphones. The house owner said the cellphones were not hers and also, after checking the house, she is said to have found nothing stolen, hence the trespassing charge.
Mwamoola is expected to reappear in court for the pending housebreaking and theft case, which a legal expert said has a possible five-year sentence.
