Man escapes death from mob justice only to be arrested by cops
ALEXANDRA - A man escaped mob justice but was arrested for allegedly possessing an illegal firearm for which the mob almost killed him for.
Although a man recently escaped death in a mob attack, he couldn’t avoid being arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm – the reason the mob had attacked him.
After receiving a tip-off about a mob in Tsutsumani, the suspect from Marlboro was saved by police. Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Manare Ramotshela said when police arrived on the scene, the mob ran away leaving the man seated on the ground with blood oozing from his head.
Ramotshela said on the man’s thigh was a rifle which the man alleged belonged to his friend who was in prison. After that, the man is said to have kept quiet. He was given medical treatment on the scene before being arrested and has a court appearance pending. Ramotshela urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, as by doing so they will be committing a crime.
Meanwhile, another man was remanded in custody pending a court appearance for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. Ramotshela said the man was nabbed by patrolling officers who had received a tip-off with the man’s description and address. The police went there and found him. When searching him they found a revolver loaded with two live rounds and one spent cartridge.
